Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity opens for nominations

The €1 million Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity is open for nominations for 2025.

 The annual prize recognises “outstanding contributions to climate action and climate solutions that inspire hope”. It is open to nominations of individuals, organisations and networks who are making “outstanding contributions to climate action and climate solutions that inspire hope and possibility”.

The judging panel is chaired by chaired by Angela Merkel.

Nominations must be submitted by 31 January 2025, and you are not allowed to nominate yourself or your own organisation.

The prize was launched in 2020 and since then winners have been chosen offering a range of different approaches, including youth mobilisation, coalition building, developing localised solutions, and scientific research.

The prize is part of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s commitment “to put sustainability at the heart of everything it does”. The Foundation makes additional grants for climate solutions that are separate to the prize.

The 2024 prize was awarded three sustainable agriculture pioneers, celebrating people and organisations who are making a substantial contribution to global food security, climate resilience and ecosystem protection:

  • Andhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming (India)
  • Professor Rattan Lal (USA/India)
  • and SEKEM (Egypt).
